Water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH): 1.3 million people in need
Many people in conflict-affected areas cannot access safe drinking water and the cost of hygiene items is very high,
Food: 1.8 million people in need
High food prices in non-government controlled areas and reduced incomes mean many families cannot afford to buy enough food.
Health: 4.5 million people in need
Access to healthcare remains a challenge for many, especially the elderly and disabled. A lack of medicines and medical supplies continues to put lives at risk.
Shelter: 1.4 million people in need
With winter fast approaching, many families are living in damaged or run-down homes and cannot afford to repair or heat them.
Education: 0.6 million children in need
Many children do not have access to school supplies and up to 25,000 children have missed classes due to the conflict.
Child protection: 1.7 million children in need
Many children have been exposed to violence and need psychosocial support. At least 68 children have been killed and around 186 have been injured.
More than 6o% of child deaths have been caused by unexploded ordinance
Save the Children has been working in Eastern Europe and Eurasia for more than 30 years. In 2014, we launched a direct emergency response as a result of the crisis in Ukraine. We work in both government controlled and non-government controlled areas in eastern Ukraine providing essential support to children and their families affected by the conflict.
